Horse Mackerel

The Horse Mackerel gets its common name from the legend that other smaller species of fish could ride on its back over great distances. Other names include common scad, maasbanker, pollock, scad, saurel, rough scad. Horse Mackerel belongs to a family of fish called Carangidae. It congregates in large shoals in coastal waters, where it feeds on crustaceans, squid and other fish. This mackerel is edible and can be smoked, fried, salted, baked, etc. Whilst they are quite oily fish, horse mackerel have a different flavor to normal mackerel.
Nutrition facts
Horse Mackerel is an excellent source of vitamins A, D and B12. It has a high content of EPA and DHA (Omega-3) fatty acids. Exact values will vary according to fat content.
